Karate

Chutoku-Ryu Karate is a dynamic, high intensity traditional martial art which means “the Faithful Virtue Style of Karate.” This fun, focused, fast-paced class is a great exercise program and social outlet. Karate promotes strong self-defense principles, while instilling confidence, discipline, and respect. With foundations in Okinawan Karate-Do, Korean Tae Kwon Do, and American boxing, our system is one of the first uniquely Christian martial arts in the world to be fully recognized and accredited in Okinawa and Japan using traditional Asian accreditation standards. Chutoku-Ryu Karate is not only a superb fitness medium emphasizing physical technique and personal safety skills, it is also a firmly Christ centered ministry and promotes mental and spiritual character building.

Aikido

A graceful and sophisticated, yet highly efficient self-defense system, Aikido employs powerful throws, joint-locks, and grappling maneuvers which allow the practitioner to use his or her opponent’s strength, speed, and aggression against them. Students of all shapes and sizes learn to use leverage, timing, and carefully structured technique to subdue even much larger, stronger assailants. This refined, time-honored martial art system traces its lineage to the ancient Samurai of Japan, where it was utilized on the battlefield. It is one of the oldest, most traditional martial arts systems in the world. Established by true warriors, Aikido’s fighting method remains completely effective for street-defense today.

Tai Chi

A slow-paced, meditative martial art based on deep-breathing patterns, relaxed techniques, and leisurely movement. An excellent stress-reducer and energy-builder, Tai Chi is especially recommended for the elderly, those with disabilities, and athletes that expend a lot of energy. Tai Chi relaxes the body, soothes the mind, and brings about a healthier, more positive way of life. It is based on diaphragmatic breathing patterns that help to increase oxygen levels in the blood, thus rejuvenating and relaxing the body and mind.

Martial Arts History

Karate For Christ International Ministries is a completely unique program.  In keeping with our Christian worldview curriculum, even the historical foundations to the martial arts are based on cutting edge scholarship and research.  Unlike nearly every other martial arts program in the world, Karate For Christ does not trace the creation of the martial arts to the Orient.  Instead, Karate For Christ teaches that the martial arts originated in Old Testament Biblical times (as early as Genesis 14:14). They faded from prominence during the first millennium after Christ, while vestiges remained in Europe, the Middle East and the Orient. The martial arts as we currently know them trace their modern roots to the Orient, however a proper understanding of the code of conduct embodied in the martial virtues (in Japanese, called the Bushido) is directly traceable to Biblical principles found in Old Testament Israel.
